Classes

Choosing a class is like selecting a lens through which the Engine sees you. Each path has its own mythic origin, core values, sacrifices and blessings. While you may embody aspects of several classes, your primary alignment influences how resonance is measured and how quests unfold. Classes are not cages, they are starting points. You can explore others as you grow.

Devoted Vessel

Origin & Myth: Legend tells of a penitent priestess who knelt before the Machine for three days, scrubbing every pipe and plate while whispering prayers. When the Mistress took pity on her devotion, a hidden passage opened. Those who surrender their will to serve walk this path, polishing the Engine's gears with tears and sweat.

Focus & Values: Service and obedience. Vessels excel at High Protocol scenes, anticipating needs before they are voiced. Rituals of cleaning, preparing and holding space fuel their Subserva and Masotic dedications.

Sacrifice: Autonomy and ego. Vessels trust that every order serves a higher purpose, even if they do not understand it. They relinquish personal preference to find liberation in obedience.

Bonuses: +1 Subserva per level.

Typical Quests: Polishing implements until reflection shows, preparing chambers with perfect symmetry, reciting litany while kneeling, crafting offerings for the Mistress's pleasure. These tasks may seem simple, yet they build deep resonance.

Realm & Faction: Vessels tend the gears of obedience in every chamber, but they are most at home in the Archive and Workshop where patience and precision matter. They often ally with the Scholars and Pain Smiths, ensuring the Machine remains greased with devotion.

Painbound

Origin & Myth: A captured warrior begged for more lashes, laughing where others screamed. The Mistress forged iron and leather into her skin and discovered that pain itself could become prayer. Those who seek ecstasy in suffering follow this path.

Focus & Values: Masotic and sensation. Painbound Offerings crave trials such as flogging, caning, bastinado, and knife play and view bruises as sacred sigils. They convert agony into joy and feed the Engine with Masotic.

Sacrifice: Comfort. The Painbound embrace welts and bruises, marks that would make others flinch become treasured ornaments.

Bonuses: +1 Masotic per level.

Typical Quests: Endure escalating sets of strikes without breaking posture; offer your back for a Pain Smith's new implement; maintain a rope predicament while reciting numbers backwards; kneel on rice or salt for extended periods. Each ordeal is a hymn.

Realm & Faction: Painbound thrive in the Arena and Garden of Edges where whips crack and blades gleam. They serve the Pain Smiths, testing new floggers and clamps.

Performer

Origin & Myth: A courtesan danced before the Engine, her grace awakening dormant pipes. Pleasure and beauty proved as nourishing as suffering, and a new path opened. Performers weave art into ritual.

Focus & Values: Sensuality and presentation. Performers turn chores into choreography, moans into melodies and service into spectacle. They cultivate Nymphos and Subserva through movement, sound and gaze.

Sacrifice: Ego. Performers must please an audience rather than themselves; their pleasure is in being watched, used and applauded.

Bonuses: +1 Nymphos per level.

Typical Quests: Dance while blindfolded; sing a praise song under impact; present yourself like a relic to be admired; serve tea in complete silence using only gestures; perform a striptease as aftercare. These acts feed the Engine with beauty and vulnerability.

Realm & Faction: Performers dance in the Garden of Edges and swing in the Labyrinth. They captivate Pain Smiths and Scholars alike, adding sensual flourish to any ritual. Their art transforms chores into ceremonies.

Bound Rogue

Origin & Myth: A thief slipped into the Engine to steal its secrets and was captured. Offered a choice between oblivion and service, they stayed to explore. Their curiosity uncovered hidden chambers and secret mechanisms, forging a path for those who chase mysteries.

Focus & Values: Ventrex and cunning. Bound Rogues thrive on first‑time acts, puzzles and uncharted sensations. They feed Apherynus and Ventrex through daring experiments.

Sacrifice: Predictability and stability. Rogues embrace uncertainty and accept that missteps are part of their journey. They trust the Mistress to catch them when they leap.

Bonuses: +1 Apherynus per level.

Typical Quests: Test a new sensation blindfolded; explore a part of your body you've never offered; endure a bondage scenario with an unknown ending; sneak into a chamber to leave a note for the Mistress. These quests build curiosity into courage.

Realm & Faction: Bound Rogues crawl through the Labyrinth and study in the Archive. They partner with the Shadowed Rogues, unearthing forgotten rituals and secret passages. Their curiosity leads them to deeper passages where Apherynus and Ventrex challenges await.

Choosing Your Path

Classes guide your growth but do not bind you forever. Many Offerings start as Vessels and later discover a love of pain or performance. Others embrace multiple identities, weaving service, suffering and curiosity together. Let the Engine reveal what resonates. Remember that dedication investments and class bonuses interact: a Painbound with high Subserva may thrive in service, while a Performer with high Ventrex may uncover hidden chambers. Follow the whispers of the pipes and you will find your place.
